I constantly speak to my clients about how its important to never underestimate your why. In the World of Asentiv we would call it your Emotionally Charged Connection or ECC for short.
I always work with clients on finding out their ECC first, as once they understand their drivers then this powerful force drives them on. The importance of this was brought home to me yet again this week when working with a new client.
Its more than a why
This particular client is passionate about providing training and support for people who are promoted within an organisation. They feel promoted staff are often not supported enough and left to their own devices. This of course means they struggle to perform effectively and the people they now manage are also not being supported enough to do their jobs effectively.
After coaching my client on why this was important to them they shared a childhood memory were they felt they were left to “just get on with it”, when they never had the skills to “just get on with it”. They also never received any praise for their efforts while trying to” just get on with it” which had a profoundly negative affect on them.
Working through this we were able to help my client realise that this was where their passion and drive came from to work with the clients they engage with now and why they love what they do. We were then able to craft a couple of short sentences they would be comfortable to share when networking and promoting their business. They can now powerfully express how this experience drives them to make a difference with their training to newly promoted leaders and managers.
An added bonus to this is that my client is now even more motivated to make a massive difference in their field. They also have a message that is more powerful than saying ” I’m a management trainer” when asked what they do.
Over the coming weeks we will be working on my clients mission, vision, target market and business image and all of this will link back to their emotionally charged connection. This will help them develop a powerful presence in their field and attract clients that are equally passionate about supporting their newly promoted staff.
Does anybody care?
I do often get told that people aren’t really bothered about why anyone “does what they do”. I can only show them countless examples of clients who have shared their ECC with their prospective clients and how it has been a key factor in them winning more business.
Below are two links to two clients ECC’s that they have posted to LinkedIn. They have both got a tremendously positive response from their LinkedIn following and yes it has led to business.

An ECC is not a sob story it is a deep understand of why the way we operate in life is important to us and the difference we can make to others.
