How do you know your networking is effective? This is a question I often ask when people tell me they are serial networkers or they network a lot. Surprisingly it is a question many people struggle to answer accurately. They can tell me where they network, who they have met and who they know but they can struggle to tell me the results they get. This is often because they don’t know what effective networking is for them.
People ultimately should go networking to build their business. Different networking events can give you different things. Some can given you knowledge, some can give you an event experience, and some can give you exposure to your target market. Ultimately though all of these should lead to more business.
How do you know your networking is effective? Here are three things to consider;
- Have a system for tracking your results from each type of event you attend. This means you can measure the value of your time and effort.
- Be clear on your target market so you can attend events that they attend or others who have the same target market as you attend. This way you can build synergies that will get you in front of your target market clients.
- Do you have a clear repeatable message that separates you from your competition? One that tells how your clients are better off after engaging with you or why that’s important to you? If you can connect to people with a story you become more memorable and more likely to be at the forefront of someones mind when they are thinking about your product or service.
If you spend sometime reviewing your performance in these three areas and implementing improvements your networking results will improve greatly.
