I love this quote as it works on many levels. For me it invokes a nostalgic spirit of discovery. Setting sail to the open seas in search of adventure, discovery and a new life. It also encapsulates how valuable a harbour is for ships. A place of safety from the storm, to replenish, disembark, restock with supplies before setting sail again.

As we begin to come of out 12 months of lockdown this quote struck for two reasons.

1)     Many businesses have been sheltered in the harbour awaiting the storm to pass. The hospitality, events, entertainment, sport and travel sectors in particular have been battered by storm covid.

2)     Many businesses have been stuck in the storm trying to sail through it and come out the other side. Trying to keep sales coming in to keep their businesses afloat and operating in really difficult seas.

Why the nautical theme? Well another one of my favourite quotes is by John F Kennedy when he said, “A rising tide raises all ships”. We are beginning to see the easing of lockdown and hopefully the lessening of the winds of storm covid. Many businesses will be beginning to set sail and will either be leaving the harbour and set of on the next leg of their business adventure, or they will be able sail through calmer trading waters.

My wish for you as the Captain of your ship is for you get a fair wind, good speed and the support of your business armada.

You’ve been in the harbour long enough. Make sure your ship has made good use of its time in the harbour. You plans have been readjusted for the new trading conditions you will experience. The crew are ready and know your route so you can set sail again with a new spirit of adventure and success.
