Why are you still here?

This is a question I’d like you to ask of yourself and of your business in these strange trading times.

Back in March the dreaded lockdown word became prevalent in our vocabulary. Many businesses adopted what I called the business foetal position. They curled up and protected the vital parts of their business.

They kept a close eye on their outgoings and looked at ways they could cut costs to protect their spend. Many moved out of offices or looked to negotiate out of contracts early to protect the money they already had. In some case job cuts were made all to make sure the business survived.

The government stepped in with support in the form of grants, deferred payments, loans and of course the furlough scheme. While these steps did not help everyone, they did provide much needed support for many businesses.

This is where my question becomes a valid one. Are you still here because of this Government support or because you’ve continued to keep your marketing and sales activities on track?

If it’s the latter, then you should have a full pipeline, if its not full you should have leads you can convert into sales to keep your business on track and growing through these uncertain times.

If it’s the former, then its important you ramp up your sales and marketing activity to move beyond a “survival” mindset and into an opportunity mindset. It’s important that you as a business owner be honest with yourself here. Review why you’re still in the game and how much longer your current strategy will keep you afloat.

Should you want to review your strategy and you’d like some thoughts on getting your pipeline filled then feel free to give me a call and I’ll be happy to help.

It’s important we stay supportive of each other as a rising tide raises all ships so let’s all rise together.
